Next to Legos, Telemark Skiing is the last thing to come out of a Nordic country that people still care about. And the people that care about tele REALLY care about it. So much in fact that you can rarely encounter a tele skier without having some sort of existential skiing discussion. No such discussion should ever take place. While most blur the line between ethos and recreational sport. I learned that not all tele skiers are the same.
A local Telemark Skier turned out to be a nice guy. Completely normal dude. He started telemark skiing and just likes it better. Nothing wrong with that.
“I think I’ll get a pizza after skiing today.”
– Telemark Skier, not talking about telemark skiing.
Most telemark skiers are filed somewhere in between fly fisherman and rock climber. They think they’re better than you. For some sort of weird “my life is harder because I choose to make it harder” reason. But not this guy. We got on a lift together and not a single word was uttered about 75mm vs. NTN or even a “Free the Heel” comment. We talked about football and he doesn’t even have an Instagram. Good for you, man.
